Project Overview
Summary
This is a UX/UI re-design project for a salad ordering app I worked on when first introduced to the field.
The original design, while meeting surface requirements from the brief, exhibited a lack of depth and consideration for the holistic experience. This re-design aims at improving the UX of the app, with a focus on usability, accessibility and desirability.
Project Timeline: February 2024 - now
Status: Ongoing - prototyping, testing and iteration in progress
Role: UX/UI Designer, UX researcher
UX Artefacts delivered: Personas, User Journey Map, User Flow Map, Lo-fi Wireframes, Interactive Prototype
Tools: Figma, Miro, Balsamiq, DALL-E
The Problem
A new order-online, healthy-fast-food business named "Who Says" needs to develop a mobile app to launch their business. It is a customise your own salad concept that is focused on consumers who care about the provenance of their food. "Who Says?" has the status as a B-Corp, meaning that it is required to have positive social impact and respect all stakeholders
How might we -
design an app that allows for meaningful customisation and respectfully addresses all stakeholder needs while ensuring a pleasant and intuitive user experience?
The Solution - Rationale
This iteration allows users to choose from a menu or build their own, providing a range of customisation options catering to all persona needs. Filters are designed for users to browse options suited to their dietary or nutritional needs.  Information about food provenance is front and centre on the home page, with a call-to-action (CTA) to find out more.
Next Steps
In the next prototyping and iteration stage, I will investigate more intuitive ways to customise, e.g., swapping out ingredients. Opportunities such as tooltips will be explored to provide information on how the food was processed, e.g. no cross-contamination.
User testing and evaluation will be conducted to gain insights into the usability and overall experience of the current iteration.
Design Process
Empathise & Define | Unpacking Persona Needs + User Journey Mapping + User Flow
Based on the research data provided, key attributes and core needs were consolidated for 8 personas.
Key requirements were identified as a result, including food provenance information, flexible portion size selection, customisation for dietary and nutritional needs, as well as accessibility.
I zoomed in on the personal Val and created a first-time user journey, keeping in mind the requirements identified. The user goal specified here is - to find a quick, convenient way for Val to order salads that suit her dietary needs and allow them to customise based on their preferences.
Opportunities were explored based on the thoughts, feelings, and pain points identified at each journey stage.
Next, I created a user flow map detailing the steps Val could take to reach the goal identified in the journey map. This was also informed by a mock dialogue between the app and the user as an exploration tool.
